August 21, 2025 08:29am

Students and staff at Plympton Academy are celebrating the school’s strongest GCSE outcomes since the pandemic.

The results follow on from an excellent set of A level grades last week, marking a year of achievement across the Academy.

This year, grades at 4 or above and 5 or above rose dramatically to reach record-breaking levels. Many subjects recorded outstanding improvements across the board, including English Language, English Literature, mathematics, photography, art, dance and health and social care.

The vast majority of Year 11 students will now continue their studies at Plympton Academy’s thriving Sixth Form benefitting from the vast range of courses on offer.

Collecting his GCSE results today, a students said:

“I’m overwhelmed – all my hard work has paid off.”

Another student collecting GCSE results today said:

“Without my amazing teachers and their support, I would have only dreamed about achieving grade 8s and 9s.”

Shaun Willis, Headteacher at Plympton Academy said:

“A huge congratulations to our Year 11 students on a fantastic set of results. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the personal growth behind each success and we look forward to welcoming many of them back in September as they begin their next chapter in our sixth form,.

“At Plympton Academy, we aim to expand our world through community, curiosity, compassion and courage. As a proud Thinking School, we use Thinking Tools to help students reflect critically, build confidence, and take ownership of their learning and these approaches have contributed to today’s achievements.

“My heartfelt thanks go to our students, our brilliant staff, and the families who have supported them throughout this journey.”

Jay Davenport, Regional Director at The Thinking Schools Academy Trust, said:

“Well done to all the students at Plympton for their excellent results. Behind every result is the hard work of our students, the dedication of staff, and the support of parents and the wider community. At the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, we encourage learners to think deeply about how they learn, and it’s wonderful to see students developing the confidence and resilience to succeed.”
