Students celebrate GCSE results

Students from Plympton Academy are celebrating another fantastic set of GCSE exam results today with many staying on in the sixth form to
study A levels.

Stand out subjects include all three Sciences, Visual Arts, and BTEC Level 2 courses in engineering, where over 75% of students achieved a
distinction or distinction star.

High grades were also seen in Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Sports Science.

The 9-1 grading system was introduced two years ago to reflect a more demanding curriculum and replaces the traditional A – E grades.

This year at Plympton Academy there were many outstanding performances including:

Carrie Irwin - Biology (9), Chemistry (9), English Language (8), English Literature (9), Geography (9), History (9), Maths (8), Physics
(8), RS (9), Spanish (7), Statistics (A), Sports Studies (D*). Carrie is staying on at Plympton Academy to study A level Maths, Sport,
Philosophy and Ethics and Biology.

Olivia Osborne - Biology (6), Chemistry (5), English Language (6), English Literature (8), History (8), Maths (7), Physics (6), Religious
Studies (9), Spanish (5), Statistics (A), Business Studies (D*), Performing Arts (D*). Olivia is staying on at Plympton Academy to
study A level Maths, Philosophy and Ethics and Business Studies.

Mia Blackford - Biology (8), Chemistry (7), English Language (9), English Literature (8), History (9), Maths (6), Physics (7), Religious
Studies (9). Mia is keeping her options open and considering her future plans.

Sarah Mayne - Biology (6), Chemistry (5), English Language (9), English Literature (8), Geography (7), History (8), Maths (6), Physics
(6), Religious Studies (8), Statistics (A), sports studies (D*).

Strong progress has been seen by many students at the school, in particular Maya Ali, who achieved, on average, nearly three grades
above expectation and Hayden Alexander who achieved just over two grades, on average above expectation.

Visual Arts demonstrated strong outcomes with Courtney Stoneman gaining grade 9 in both Art and Photography. Courtney is staying on at
Plympton Academy to study A level Art, English and Business Studies.

“Our results have been strong across the board again this year despite a demanding curriculum,” said Plympton Academy Principal, Lisa
Boorman. “The students have worked hard and I’m delighted that so many have decided to stay on at our sixth form to do A levels. Everyone
looks forward to welcoming them back in September.”
