More than 700 tins of soup have been donated to a local charity after a heartfelt plea from students of Plympton Academy.

The pupils from tutor group 8JHE wanted to collect the soup for the Mutley soup kitchen. Their tutor, John Henson, posted a message on Facebook asking for donations.

“A local shop, Brook Stores, saw my post and donated 50 tins of soup as well as offering to become a second drop off point if people couldn’t get into school,” said John Henson. “In the end they collected 105 tins of soup.”

As well as the soup, ten bags of warm clothing was also donated. The Mutley soup kitchen supports the homeless and vulnerable all year round.

“I am so proud of our students they have shown great kindness,” said Principal, Lisa Boorman. “Thank you to everyone who donated to this very worthwhile cause. “
