A Level results day 2016

Jumping for joy: Ashleigh Ingram, Amy Blackler, Laura Mayne, Rebecca Watson and Fiona Turner

Sixth form students at Ridgeway School, soon to be known as Plympton Academy, are celebrating today after achieving good A-level and vocational results. The vast majority of students in Year 13 secured their first choice university place with a large number of students heading off to top universities after the summer.

There were some remarkable individual performances. Rebecca Watson achieved an exceptional three A* grades and will be taking up a place at Exeter University in September to study English and Spanish. Ashleigh Ingram also achieved outstanding results, obtaining a stunning 460 UCAS points and securing a place at Bristol to study psychology. Performances at AS were equally impressive, demonstrating that the school continues to go from strength to strength.

Head of sixth form Martin Poveda said: "I couldn't be more proud of what our students have achieved today. "It has been a real privilege to work with them and I am delighted to see their hard work pay off."

Ridgeway School also offers a dynamic sixth form vocational provision with courses ranging from engineering to sport and recreation and everything in between. The success rates this year are exceptional with a large number of vocational students going on to university courses and all students taking up employment or progressing to higher level courses and apprenticeships.

Jack Jones was awarded a distinction* in BTEC engineering and has secured a higher level apprenticeship at Babcock International.

Principal Lisa Boorman said: "Today is one of those days that makes the whole job worthwhile. It's wonderful to share a day that involves so many smiles and success stories. I would like to thank parents and staff for supporting our students in order to achieve such fantastic results."
